BULUKUMBA


This area is located in eastern part of South Sulawesi, that is in the south east of Makassar city. This area plays essential role, in terms of sea ways, through Selayar, by facilitating the ferry harbour, in Bira.
This area possesses some white sand beaches which reflect lovely panorama to enjoy.

1. The Boat Making Yards

Tana Beru is widely know as a place for making traditional boats. In this dry dock. We can see, a great amount of sailing-boats area being made in various size, say from they very huge to the tiny one.
Phinisi Nusantara as one of the greatest sailing boats was also made there. This boat has sailed to the Pacific Ocean, and other great famous sailing boats is "Ammana Gappa" which has sailed till Madagascar.

2. Cape of Bira

Cape of Bira is famous for it beautiful and pleasant white sanda beach. It water is clear and it is good for swimming. In the front side, there is a small island with white sand spreaded along it. This panorama enrich the beauty of the sorronding. While in the back side, soars up the "Puang Janggo" mountain with a hieght of more than 400 meters. It can be reached in 15 minutes by car, or by hiking for approximately 40 minutes. Lodging and facilities are available there.
Bira beach is located approximately 41 kilometers to wards the east of Bulukumba city. People can also utilize the ferry boat which connects South Sulawesi mainland with the of Selayar.

3. Kajang

The Kajang people is sub-ethnic of Makassar ethnic who in habited (occupied) a particular area. The area and the people the people are quite isolated from the livings of other people of Bulukumba. The head of this group is called "Amatoa" who considered holy. For those who are eager to see her, are obliged to wear a black shirt and black "sarong", and it will be better to meet him without any shoes or sandals.
They live harmoniously with the nature, and they do not use modern facilities i.e. means of transportation. For that reason, no cars and they like permitted to enter this area. The meeting ceremony wiyh "Amatoa" is very unique event.

4. Rubber Plantation

Rubber Plantation is located in the western Kajang towards Sinjai. This Plantation is the British inheritance and until present time it is still preserved, because it is still productive.
