GOWA

Kayangan This regency is neighboring with the capital of South Sulawesi province. Formerly, it was the center of Makassar Kingdom. It is famous ruler was Sultan Hasanuddin, who was been entitled "Ayam Jantan dari Timur". He once achieved the climax of golden ages. And he was very famous as the conqueror of other kingdoms outside South Sulawesi. The following objects which are still can be found showing the succes time of this kingdom.
1. Somba Opu Fort

Fort of Somba Opu has the same position as the Rotterdam Fort. Both of them are the inheritance of the strong and heroic kingdoms iin South Sulawesi. For of Somba Opu is now under the process of renovation. It is equipped museum.

2. The Miniature Of Sulawesi

The miniature of Sulawesi is located in Fort of Somba Opu area. In this place are built the all sorts of traditional houses of all ethnics of South Sulawesi such as Bugis, Makassar, Mandar, Toraja, Kajang. Each of the traditional houses is constructed artificially and uniquely which describe the cultural philosophy of each ethnic.
As it is located in the area of Benteng Somba Opu, therefore, this place is treated to be historical and cultural center. It is also functioned as the place of Cultural Week (Pekan budaya) which is usually held annually in October. So, it is very essential to be visited by the people who appreciate and are interested in culture and history.

3. The Grave Of Syech Yusuf

Syech Yusuf is one of the famous muslim heroes. He was widely known by the people of South Sulawesi as "tuanta Salamaka". His grave is widely known as 'Kobbang". he was known as a knowledgeable man who was actively introduced and wide spread the teachings of islam in several countries. Surprisingly, his grave are found in South Afrika, Ceylon (Srilanka), Banten (Indonesia) and Gowa (Indonesia). His grave, (Kobbang) which is located in Katangka is bordered with Makassar. Nearly everyday his grave is visited by a great amount of people with different purposes.

4. The Old Mosque Of  Katangka

The Old Masque of Katangka is located not faraway from the grave of Syech Yusuf as well as the grave of kings of Gowa including Sultan Hasanuddin.
This mosque was built by King of Gowa XIV namely Imangngerangi Daeng Manrabia Alauddin and was restored in 1978. Around this mosque you can easily find the graves of former kings, who once ruled some regencies like Luwu, Bone and Gowa.

5. Museum Of Balla Lompoa

This wooden made museum was a reconstruction of an old place of the past Gowa kingdom which was built in 1939. It has been restored in the years 1978-1980. In this museum you can find historical objects from the kingdom of Gowa such as manuscripts, music instruments, traditional clothes, weapons, and various collections of the kingdoms ceremonial aquipments.

6. The Tomb Of Sultan Hasanuddin

He was a king of Gowa who devoted all of his life to fight againts the Dutch. His grave is among the kings' graves of Gowa. The grave of the namely king, is made of huge stone. Of all the graves in this in this yard, the grave of Sultan Hasanuddin was the largest one. All of the kings' graves in this yard lie among the trees of fragrant "Kamboja" and scarlet "Flamboyant". Outside the graves' border, there is a large stone, which is claimed a place where the so called "Tomanurung" firstly found. This place then was treated the place for all the kings of Gowa to be inaugurated.

7. Malino

In the past time, the kings made malino as their resting resort. And then the high officials of the dutch goverment turnrd it into a pleasant recreation resort. There are many sorts of tropical beatiful flowers are growing everywhere in this cold place. In addition to that, malino also produces fruits and vegetables that are trypically grow on the slopes of Mount Bawakaraeng. The mountain is regarded as a holy place by a group a people of South Sulawesi. The scattered pine woods which are growing on the height of 1.050 meter on the sea level, makes the area cooler and fresher.
