Luwu is one of the three largest kingdoms that ever existed in the history of South Sulawesi. It is the mother land of the legendary character namely Sawerigading, who was known as a famous sailor during his period. People say that the once invaded and conguered China on his way of looking for his living partner "Wecuddai". The story of Sawerigading who become the gist of well known epoch "Sure I Lagaligo" the largest manuscript that ever exist in the world consists of about 9000 pages is placed in the Library of Leiden University in Holland.

The founder of this mosque was Dato Sulaeman. he was the first who brought and wide spread the Islam religion in South Sulawesi.This mosque was built in 1604 by King Luwu XVI Setiaraja. Its from was based on Indonesia architecture which took a "menu" model, and its podium was made of foreign ceramic.

This museum is formely the place of King Luwu whose named was Andi Jemma. It was in this palace that Andi Jemma firstly declared Luwu Kingdom as a part of Republic of Indonesia on August 17,1945. This place then became the center for planning the strategies in the frame of fighting against resetlement of the Ducth colonialism in Luwu.In this museum ones can find the inheritance of Luwu Kingdom. More than that ones can also find the luxurious traditional house of Luwu king which stands close to the museum.
