Selayar which is exactly lies at trading route leading to Mollucan (Maluku) becaused of that, the name of this area emerged in the history. The existence of an old state "Dongson" 2000 years in this island still remains a puzzle that has not been completely answered. Selayar was highly expected to keep up with the rapid development particularly during the fouteenth century, as stated in the history of Java Negarakertagama source.
